Blackstairs Lithium to start door-to-door knocking for participation in private water testing in the Moylisha Area

Geologists working on behalf of Blackstairs Lithium will be offering participation in a private water testing scheme to community members in the Moylisha area.

Door-to-door knocking will start from the 18th of May 2023. If a house is called at and no household member is present, a leaflet will be left with BLLs contact details for the householder if they wish to participate.

Once all participating households have been confirmed, their details will be shared with TelLab, an environmental laboratory for drinking and well water testing based in Tullow, who will provide trained service engineers to carry out the sampling. The service engineers will be in contact with households directly to organise this.

Once the samples are in, TelLabs estimate a 21-day period before results will be ready. These results will then be sent directly from TelLab to IE Consulting who will provide an interpretation of the results before delivering both the result and the interpretation to the participating household.

Water testing came about based on feedback received by BLL from attendants at the information meeting hosted on the 22nd of March 2023. IE consulting was retained to provide advice on water related issues. On their recommendation, a water monitoring plan was put in place. On top of the private water testing described above, sampling will also be carried out at local streams and other surface water sources. To document any changes in water quality over the course of this year’s exploration drilling program, BLL will carry out testing of both private water and surface water sources prior to commencement of exploration drilling, during the drilling program and post drilling. Once drilling starts, a robust monitoring system will be put in place for water used in the drilling process.

The testing suite is a combination of the Wicklow County Council suite, the Carlow County Council suite, and a number of recommended additions based on advice received from IE consulting and other expert consultants.

See the full list of testing parameters below.
